What We Do

In 2016 the International Shakespeare Center started a program to familiarize actors with the cues for action found in Shakespeare’s meter and rhetoric. With visiting artists from around the country the Shakespeare Gym got its start with a handful of local Shakespeare Close-readers and actors. Since then we have gained participants and our members’ dedication has expanded.

Today, the Gym runs two theme-based workshops a year, hosts at least one acting workshop with visiting ISC artists, performs one full play, and provides mentoring for members to turn a monologue or soliloquy into a self video for the the YouTube “Shut-in Shakespeare Festival”.

Our Mission

The Gym is designed to promote individual artistic growth, provide community, and performance opportunities for local Shakespeare enthusiasts to take their interest in the plays to the next level.

The Gym has become one of the best things in my life - I just want to spend all my time getting deeper into Shakespeare.
