Who we are

The Gym is a place to develop strategies for acting Shakespeare. Through workshops and performances, Gym members learn to “fit the action to the word,” find acting cues in the text, and bring Shakespeare’s language to life. With online and in-person programming, the Gym offers a variety of ways to work out with Shakespeare’s plays.

There are no auditions. Gym membership provides access to workshop training with professional Shakespeareans, casting in the annual play, and participation in focus workshops on a particular scene from a single play or set of scenes with a theme. The Gym explores comedy in Shakespeare, two-person scenes, monologues and soliloquies with an emphasis on letting textual information breed intuition in performance.

What’s on

In June we finished a production of King Lear with the Upstart Crows in honor of Itai Rosen. We’re about to begin

The Comedy of Errors as a Shakespeare Gym production.
